Yuki San is the young daughter of an old Japanese couple. She's spoiled, sassy, and quite naughty. The couple tried for many, many years to have a baby and finally Yuki was born. In their eyes she can do no wrong. She is their blessing and will care for them in their final years of life. One day Yuki decides to drown her kitten by throwing it into a gutter that leads to the ocean. Her plan is interrupted by an American teen, Richard Merrit. They go their separate ways but are brought together once again twelve years later. Yuki finds herself questioning everything. Her small, predetermined world is seen in a new light.
There is so much I could say about this short story. It didn't seem short at all. The impact on me was so great. I'm not sure I could accurately sum up my feelings so I won't even try.
It is a tale about family, duty, religion, and love. Frances Little wraps all of these elements together beautifully. The scenery is lovely and added an amazing voice to the storyline.
Readers who enjoy love stories, powerful messages, and a good cry need to pick up this ebook.

Little Sister Snow eBook Frances 18631941 Little Reviews
I was given a small hardback copy of this book--and another which was the second about that same girl--when I was just beginning to learn reading. I read them both many times over and loved the special illustrations and the lightweight pages. It hurt my heart to loose the books, along with most of the others I had gotten at the same time. I will be ordering a copy so that I can read it again--and then read it to my granddaughter. One of those special, lovely, little books that once read, can never be forgotten.
I highly recommend this book!!
A beautiful story of a young Japanese girl, the only child of aged parents. She is dedicated to her parents' future care and providing for them in their old age. She can only do this by marrying an older man of means who can provide for them. But Yuki meets an American boy who captivates her but encourages her to be a good girl. He becomes a trusted friend. The story relates how Yuki works out her conflicting emotions and comes to terms with the reality and inevitability of her marriage.
Very sweet and old fashioned. A glimpse of 19th century Japan, and universal 19th century mores.
Because of length, it's really a novella.
